Electrical calls need one question asked early: is anything sparking, hot or smelling like burning? If yes, the caller is told to stay away, switch off the main breaker only if it's safe, and call 911 if there's smoke or fire. Then the call is marked urgent and you get the details by text and email. Everything else, from tripping breakers to EV chargers, gets booked or queued for a callback.
Calls electricians get, and what the assistant does
“The outlet in my kitchen is sparking.”
Safety line, then the call is flagged urgent and you're texted the details.
“A power line is down across my driveway.”
Tells the caller to stay at least 10 metres back and call 911 and the electric utility. It also alerts you, but the utility handles the line.
“Half my house has no power.”
Asks whether neighbours are out too (a utility outage isn't your job), then books troubleshooting.
“I want a quote for a Level 2 EV charger.”
Books a 60-minute estimate visit and notes the panel size if the caller knows it.

Emergency rules for electricians
The safety line is said first, then the call is flagged urgent and you get the details instantly. Optional live transfer.
- Fire or smoke“If there's fire or smoke, get everyone out now, then hang up and call 911.”
- Downed power line“Stay at least 10 metres back, keep everyone away, and don't touch anything the line is touching. Please hang up and call 911 and your electric utility.”
- Sparking or burning smell“Please stay away from it. If you can reach your main breaker safely, switch it off, but don't touch anything wet or sparking. If you see smoke or fire, call 911.”
The other rules (fire, gas smell, CO alarm and more) apply to every trade too.
